A Christmas tree is an indispensable part of any Christmas celebration and many households decorate one even if they are not overly religious. It’s a great tradition and decorating a Christmas tree together with your family is sure to create some great memories for everyone involved.
You can get either an artificial tree or a live one. Artificial ones are good when you’re on a budget and want to reuse the same tree every year but nothing beats the looks of a real Christmas tree. The forest scent will spread out all over the room and make everyone feel the authenticity of the holiday season. If you can afford it, consider getting a live Christmas tree so that your family can experience that indescribable atmosphere.
However, putting up a live tree is more complicated than dealing with an artificial one. Read this short guide on how to make sure your Christmas tree looks amazing this year:
Choose the right tree
Decide on the spot you are going to put your Christmas tree in and then take some measurements to find out what is the maximum possible size of your tree. You want to make sure it’s the right size before you leave the store so that you don’t end up cutting it yourself in the backyard.
Check that the tree you want to buy is healthy. It shouldn’t be shedding too many needles (although don’t expect to find one that doesn’t shed at all). The color of the needles should be bright green with no brownish spots. There are many kinds of trees to choose from and they all look different so it is a good idea to pick the tree together with all family members so that you can find something that everybody likes.
Put it in the designated space
Now it is time to transport the tree from the store to your home. You should always use a tree stand to secure the tree and make it stand upright. Christmas tree stands have special screws that are able to accommodate most tree trunk widths although sometimes you will need to trim some branches at the base to fit the tree into the stand.
You will also need to think about how you are going to water the tree. Most tree stands have water reservoirs built in that you can refill easily. There are many products on the market but the Krinner tree stand is one of the most well-known and true staple of many Christmas celebrations.
It is a good idea to put a sheet of plastic underneath the stand beforehand so that should any spillage occur you will be able to clean it easily. This also helps with catching the inevitable shedding.
How you decorate your Christmas tree is completely up to you and there is no right or wrong way to do it. Feel free to experiment with various decorations and colors. A good rule of thumb to remember is to stick to a certain theme – this will make the decorations look cohesive.
